Planning Notices

The Planning Department regularly holds open houses and public meetings for Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment, Plan of Subdivision and some Plan of Condominium applications. These typically take place during Planning and Development Committee meetings.

An open house meeting is typically held shortly after the Town receives a development application, at the beginning of the development review process. Town Staff have not reviewed the application yet, and are still awaiting comments and analysis from other departments and agencies who review the application, as well as comments from the public. Therefore there have been no decisions made about the development proposal yet.

The purpose of an open house meeting is for Town Staff and the applicant to:

  • Inform you about the development proposal;
  • Inform you about planning process to follow;
  • Answer your questions;
  • Hear your comments.

A public meeting is required to be held under the Planning Act for all applications to amend the Official Plan and/or Zoning By-law, as well as Plans of Subdivision and some Plans of Condominium.

The purpose of a public meeting is to provide a public forum for discussion on the merits of the application. Applicants have the opportunity to present their proposal, and the public can write in or attend to make their views known.

Following the public meeting, staff will prepare a recommendation report concerning the application to be presented at a meeting of the Planning and Development Committee. The Planning and Development Committee will then evaluate the application and make a recommendation to Town Council. Council then makes the final decision regarding whether to approve, approve with conditions and/or changes, or refuse the application.

To obtain more information about a development proposal, you can contact the Planning Department. You are also welcome to come into Town Hall to discuss the proposal in-person with a member of Town Staff anytime during our regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm).

Application materials are available on the Town's website.

To submit formal written comments about a development application, you can send an email or letter to the Planning Department at the following address:
