Report any issues to the Town of Grimsby to help keep our community safe, clean and enjoyable for everyone. Use our online reporting forms or contact us directly to let us know about an issue. Online form reporting is received by staff during regular business hours of operation (Mon-Fri 8:30 am - 4:30 pm)

If there is an urgent matter regarding a Town related issue and it is outside of regular business hours (Mon-Fri 8:30 am - 4:30 pm), you can call the Public Works Operations Centre at 905-945-9201. Your call will be automatically directed to the after hours Call Answering Service. A live operator will receive your information and direct it to the appropriate staff.

Dog Complaints (Aggressive, Barking, Running at Large)

Wildlife Concerns

The Ministry of Natural Resources, the Town and other local and Provincial agencies are unable to handle sick animals and we recommend that the animal be left alone so that nature can take its course.

However if there is an immediate Public Safety Concern, the police should be notified 905-945-2211.

The exception to this is if rabies is suspected.

In the case of suspected rabies, Town of Grimsby residents should contact the Lincoln County Humane society at 905-682-0767 or 1-800-263-2469 as this agency is responsible under the Rabies Contingency Plan to arrange for the pick up of wildlife suspected of having rabies.

If human contact has been made with wildlife/animals suspected of having rabies, contact the Region of Niagara Health Department 905-688-3762 or 1-800-263-7248.

Report Flooding

If you are experiencing flooding on your property, in your basement or within a public area, please report the issue to the Town of Grimsby.

Reporting flooding helps the Town respond to concerns and collect information to better understand flooding locations, potential causes and impacts across the community.

Suspected sewer backups
Overland or surface flooding
Road or roadside flooding
Flooding from a storm sewer, catch basin or drainage system
Flooding in a park, trail or other Town-owned property

When submitting your report, please provide as much information as possible, including:

Location of the flooding
Date and approximate time it occurred
Type and extent of flooding
Where the water appears to be coming from, if known
Photographs or other information that may assist Town staff

Need Immediate Assistance?

If you are currently experiencing flooding and require assistance from the Town, contact the Operations Centre at 905-945-9201.

Town staff will review the concern and, where appropriate, inspect the affected area and attempt to determine the potential source of the flooding.

If there is an immediate danger to life or property, call 911.

After You Report

Depending on the nature of the flooding, Town staff may contact you for additional information or attend the location to investigate.

Reporting flooding to the Town does not replace contacting your home insurance provider regarding damage to your property.

Snow Removal

During periods when Town Winter Maintenance staff are fully involved in a winter event or the following cleanup period, Town staff will receive your message however, NO response will made back.

If you have a winter concern related to emergency responder's ability to access your road, please be advised that emergency respondents are in contact with Town winter maintenance personnel.

Sewers and Sewage Contamination

Sewage contamination and sewer-related issues can create health, safety and environmental concerns. If you suspect a sewer backup, sewage spill, contamination of a sewer or drain, or another sewer-related issue, avoid contact with the affected area and report the concern to the Town of Grimsby.

Report a Sewer or Sewage Concern

Contact the Town of Grimsby Operations Centre at 905-945-9201 to report:

Suspected sewage contamination
Sewer backups
Sewage spills or overflows
Contamination of a sewer or drain
Persistent or unusual sewer odours
Other sewer-related concerns

Town staff will review the concern and determine what action may be required.

If there is an immediate danger to life or property, call 911.

Sewer Backup in Your Home

If you suspect sewage is backing up into your home, avoid using toilets, sinks, showers, washing machines and other plumbing fixtures unless absolutely necessary until the issue has been resolved. Additional water entering the sewer system may contribute to the backup.

You should also contact your home insurance provider as soon as possible regarding any damage to your property.

Report a Flooding Issue

Flooding can occur for a variety of reasons and does not necessarily indicate a problem with the sanitary sewer system.

Health and Safety

Sewage and contaminated water may contain bacteria, viruses, chemicals and other substances that can pose a health risk.

Avoid direct contact with sewage or contaminated water and keep children and pets away from affected areas until they have been properly cleaned and disinfected.

If water has risen above electrical outlets, is near the electrical panel, furnace or other electrical equipment, do not enter the affected area or touch electrical equipment. Contact Grimsby Power at 905-945-5437 for assistance with safely shutting off power where required.

If you smell or suspect natural gas, leave the building immediately and contact your gas utility from a safe location.

Cleaning Up Sewage Contamination

If you are cleaning a sewage-contaminated area yourself:

Wear appropriate protective clothing, including gloves, protective eyewear and rubber boots.
Avoid direct skin contact with sewage or contaminated materials.
Discard materials that cannot be safely cleaned and disinfected.
Discard food that may have come into contact with sewage or contaminated water.
Clean and disinfect affected surfaces using appropriate products and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Thoroughly dry and ventilate affected areas to help prevent mould growth.
Wash clothing worn during cleanup separately using detergent and hot water where appropriate.

Where sewage contamination is extensive or you are unsure whether the area can be safely cleaned, consider contacting a qualified restoration or cleanup contractor.

Watermain/Water Meter Issue (including water service on your property)

For issues regarding water service plumbing within your property (plumbing inside your home beyond the water meter or the water service from your house to the property line) please contact a plumber.

For issues regarding a leaking water meter or water service (from the property line to the road) or a watermain break, please call the Operations Centre at 905-945-9201 (available 24 hours a day).
