Flood Support Programs

GBF Community Services assists individuals and households in meeting their basic needs. Through their programs, they have been helping the Grimsby community in achieving self-sufficiency for more than 58 years.

Residents who have been impacted by flooding and are experiencing challenges with food resourcing or basic cleaning supplies can contact GBF to learn about their assistance programs:

Free access to health, fitness and aquatics facilities for anyone impacted by the flooding, including access to showers and welcoming spaces to take a break.

Samaritan's Purse Canada offers free water and flood reclamation support for eligible residents so families can begin recovery safely, clearly, and with dignity.

How they can help:

• Assessment of water damage and potential health risks
• Removal of residual standing water, mud, and debris
• Application of hospital-grade disinfectant or fungicide effective on mould, mildew, and bacteria
• Final cleanup to leave the home clean, safe, and rebuild ready

What to expect:

• Call the Samaritan's Purse on-site office to request an assessment
• A trained team will evaluate the property and identify the safest next steps
• If assistance can be provided, the team will support the reclamation process from assessment through cleanup

This service is for homeowners/residents who have been impacted by flooding. Services are not provided to commercial property owners.

All work is carried out with strong safety protocols, including personal protective equipment and monitoring for hazards such as contamination and electrical risk. Residents may also be encouraged to open windows and allow air to move through the home when it is safe to do so. Every effort is made to serve residents with professionalism, compassion, and practical support during a difficult time.

ATTCH Niagara provides extensively trained therapists to assist those needing assistance with trauma, attachment, suicide risk assessment, and intervention and prevention and bring mindfulness and understanding in how trauma and attachment affect the brain and body.

If you are experiencing financial hardship and need support with basic needs such as food or housing, you may be eligible for Ontario Works or Emergency Assistance through the provincial Ontario Works program.

Emergency Assistance is a Provincial program that provides short-term financial assistance to individuals or families experiencing an emergency who are not currently receiving Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) financial assistance.

The provincial Emergency Assistance benefit may be considered where the situation has resulted in an immediate financial crisis and the individual or family does not have sufficient resources to meet essential basic or shelter needs.

Emergency Assistance is not a universal benefit available to everyone affected by flooding or other disasters. Applicants must meet financial eligibility requirements.
