Property Tax Due Dates and Penalties

2021 FINAL TAX BILLING

FIRST INSTALLMENT DUE AUGUST 6, 2021

The 2021 Final tax bills have been mailed to interested parties as shown on the Assessment Roll.  Please contact the tax office at 905-945-9634 if you have not received your tax bill.  Failure to receive a bill does not excuse the payment of taxes.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently not accepting tax payments at Town Hall; however, tax payments can be deposited in the Town Mail slot at the front entrance of Town Hall.  Cheque payments only.

Payments can be made at most financial institutions or by telephone and internet banking.  Installments can also be paid by postdated cheques provided the taxes are paid by the regular due dates.  No credit card payments are accepted at Town Hall. Please visit our website at www.grimsby.ca for further details on credit card payments.

Please ensure that your payment reaches us on or before the due date.   The taxpayer is responsible for the late arrival of payment.  Penalties of 1¼% are added on the first day of default and on the first day of each month following.  Penalties cannot be waived.

Tax bill not received

All property owners in Grimsby must pay their property taxes. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying your taxes.

Penalties for late payment

There is no grace period for late tax payments. Payment must be received on or prior to the due date to avoid penalty and interest. Interest is charged at 1.25 per cent monthly (15 per cent annually), applied on the first day of each month of default. Late payment penalties/interest cannot be waived by Council or staff. This policy is applied to all tax accounts to maintain fairness. Late payment charges are set in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001. Payments on tax accounts are applied toward the outstanding penalty and interest first and then to the oldest outstanding taxes.

Payments made at a bank

Payments made through your financial institution may take up to 5 days to reach our office which may result in payments not being received until after the due date. In such cases, late penalties will apply.
