Recycling Program
Eligible Sources
Effective January 1, 2026 the Niagara Region no longer provides recycling collection services. Under Ontario's new provincial framework for the Blue Box transition, responsibility for collecting and managing recyclables, for eligible sources (such as residential, public/private schools, specified non-profit / municipal long-term care and retirement homes) has fully shifted from municipalities to material producers.
This means that the companies that create paper, packaging, and printed materials are now required to fund and operate the recycling system across Ontario.
In the Town of Grimsby, recycling services for eligible sources are now provided by Circular Materials, the not-for-profit organization that represents producers and oversees the new standardized Blue Box system. Collection days, accepted materials, and service levels remain similar for most properties; however, Circular Materials, along with the local collection contractors are now the lead agencies for all recycling related inquiries, service requests, and missed- collection issues.
Until December 31, 2025: questions about recycling collection, contact Circular Materials’ contractor designated for Grimsby:

Non-Eligible Sources (NES)
Non-eligible sources such as businesses, places of worship, institutions, and non-profits - are not part of the new Blue Box program. Recycling from these properties can longer be collected on the same truck as residential recycling
As such, the Niagara Region no longer provides recycling collection for non-eligible sources (NES), such as industrial, commercial and institutional properties. These sources must arrange their own recycling services through a private provider.
If your property currently receives recycling collection from the Niagara Region and is considered a NES, service will end January 1, 2026.
These properties should arrange for private recycling services as soon as possible to avoid disruption.
