Intro to Alcohol Markers with Erin Gillis

Date(s): February 19

Time: Thursday, 5:30-8:30PM

Ages: 16+

Fee: $50

Join artist Erin Gillis in an introductory workshop to learn the foundational techniques of alcohol markers. Known for their vibrancy, smooth blending, and fade-resistant qualities, alcohol-based markers are a staple in many artists’ kits for a reason. We will be focusing on how to use both broad and brush nibs, blend gradients, layer to modify intensity, mix colours to create new colours, shade, and contrast. This is a great workshop for beginner artists, those new to alcohol markers, as well as any artists looking to brush up on their skills. We encourage you to enroll early before spots sell out!

Copic markers are the original alcohol-based marker, but there are now many more low-cost varieties to choose from. They come in a range of vibrant colours that are cool, neutral and warm. These markers are double ended with a broad chisel nib on one end for filling in large areas, and a brush nib on the other. The brush nib is an amazing tool that can achieve beautiful flowing lines.

School Programming

Many schools are regular visitors to the gallery, coming for exhibition tours, skill-based workshops or combinations of both. We have numerous curriculum-based programs to offer and make a special effort to work with the educators in our community to adjust our programs to the needs of individual classes. Outreach programs are also available; an experienced artist instructor can teach many techniques in your classroom.

Age Friendly Programming

Grimsby Public Art Gallery offers opportunities for
retirement, long term care, and assisted living communities to connect through meaningful and engaging art programs. Main gallery exhibition tours can be made accessible for the enjoyment of everyone, such as reduced volume and large-print visual aids for those hard of hearing.
Can’t make the trip out to us? We’d be thrilled to send
one of our Studio Instructors to your location!

For bookings, please contact our Education Coordinator, Rea Kelly, at rkelly@grimsby.ca or call 905-945-3246.
