About
The Grimsby Chautauqua Online Portal Project is a partnership of the Grimsby Public Library and Art Gallery, the Grimsby Historical Society Archives and the Town of Grimsby, and was made possible thanks to generous funding from the Government of Ontario.
Project mission
This portal was created in celebration of Grimsby's rich heritage as the Chautauqua of the North but is intended to also highlight the Town's ongoing efforts to promote education, arts, culture, history, and overall healthy living through the provision of a wealth of events, festivals and programs.
Document digitization
In addition to the creation of this portal, the Grimsby Public Library was tasked with the digitization of related images, documents and works of art held by the Grimsby Historical Society Archives and the Grimsby Public Art Gallery. These materials are shared online and are easily retrieved via the Chautauqua Digital Collection. We encourage users to browse the collection and contribute their comments and insights or create an electronic postcard from one of the many historical images.
The Grimsby Library Media Lab
The related launch of a Media Lab at the Library, also funded through the Grimsby Chautauqua Portal Project, provides access to a number of cutting-edge technologies including a 3D printer and 3D scanner. The availability of a large format document scanner allows residents of Grimsby to digitize their own family photographs and memorabilia and share their legacy, just as we have done with the Grimsby Chautauqua project.
