The Downtown Reimagined project continues to make progress as watermain installation reaches the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, and prepares to move into its next stage, with four nights of overnight construction within the intersection.

Crews have completed watermain installation up to the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, including the branch at Oak Street, and continue installing water services along Elm Street. Planned watermain and service installation within the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot has been postponed until the required underground utility locates are received. The parking lot remains open and accessible while the work is rescheduled.

The Grimsby Basement Flood Protection Program (FPP) is in the early phases of development with plans to provide rebates to residential property owners who install flood protection measures within their homes. If approved by council, the program will look to begin in Q1 2027, subject to funding.

As part of the Town's ongoing commitment to protecting and restoring natural areas, Invasive Phragmites treatment will be taking place at Lakelawn Park, Casablanca Waterfront Park, and Vineyard Valley on August 28.

Downtown Reimagined construction continues to advance along Elm Street, with two crews working to complete watermain and service installations.

This week, the mainline watermain crew progressed past the Grimsby Benevolent Fund (GBF) entrance, while a second crew continued service installations along Elm Street. Despite challenging underground conditions, including existing utilities, rock and large boulders, progress picked up.

Due to the concentration of buried wires and utilities, nearly all excavation associated with service installation is being completed using a hydro vacuum truck.

With the possibility of heavy rain during the summer months, we want to make sure residents know the best way to reach us if flooding or storm-related concerns arise. The Town has added a dedicated flooding option to our Report an Issue tool, making it easier to report basement flooding and other municipal storm-related concerns.

The Town of Grimsby brought a strong advocacy agenda to the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference, advancing several key priorities with the Province that impact growth, infrastructure, heritage protection, municipal finances and the delivery of local services.

Downtown Reimagined continues to take shape, with another week of infrastructure work underway on Elm Street. 

The recent flooding events in Grimsby have had a significant impact on our community. We know that for some residents, this has meant much more than water on a road or in a yard. It has meant flooded basements, damaged property, difficult clean-up, unexpected expenses and a great deal of stress and uncertainty.

Following recent widespread flooding across Niagara, temporary enhanced waste collection services are available to Grimsby residents whose properties have been affected by flooding.

Another productive week of work has passed for the Downtown Reimagined Project! Crews have completed watermain and service installation on Elm Street, west of Mountain Street, aside from testing, final connections, and restoration, which will be completed at a later date. The team has since moved east of Mountain Street, installing watermain and sanitary laterals as they work toward Main Street East. Because this work is close to the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection, traffic control and police presence remain in place to support safe traffic movement through the area.
