February 2019

 Community Input Meeting
Please join us on Thursday February 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Grimsby Museum. We would like to invite you to an open planning meeting for an up-coming exhibition on St. Andrews and the United Empire Loyalists. The objective of this meeting is to allow for community input and involvement. We recognize that there are many Grimsby families with connections to the UELs and St. Andrew’s church. At this initial meeting we hope to gain family stories and information that could be interesting to include and share with others in the exhibit. This exhibition will open in spring 2019. This exhibit will be about the community, for the community, created by the community. This meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Please extend this invitation to anyone you feel may be interested in participating. Not able to attend but would like to provide input? Please contact us directly to make arrangements. Please RSVP to the Grimsby Museum

Commemoration of the Battle of the Forty

Saturday June 8th

Hosted by Nelles Manor Museum

event details

This event will be taking place in three locations: Nelles Manor, the Grimsby Museum, and Coronation Park.

A battle took place in our town of Grimsby on June 8th in 1813 during the War of 1812. As the American army retreated from Stoney Creek, they camped along the Forty Mile Creek and were subsequently bombarded by British naval fire along the shores of Lake Ontario, joined by attacks on foot from our own 4th and 5th Regiments of the Lincoln Militia, along with our Indigenous allies. Due to the significance of this event for our town, we will commemorate the 206th Anniversary of the Engagement at the Forty this June. Nelles Manor is an official designated Battle Site, and a registered charitable organization whose purpose is to educate the public about some of our town’s earliest days, and to bring history to life.
