Penalty Notice Options

You have 15 days from the issue date entered on your penalty notice to pay the infraction.  Before making a payment by telephone or online, please have both the penalty notice number and the amount you are required to pay, ready. The penalty notice number = ticket number and can be found on the upper right hand side of the ticket. 

  • Pay OnlineClick Paymentus to make a payment online by Visa or Mastercard. A service fee is levied by Paymentus for each transaction.
  • By Mail – send the payment (cheque ONLY) in a sealed envelope. Please indicate the infraction number on the cheque. Please note the Town of Grimsby must receive the mailed cheque within the 15 day pay period. 
  • In Person at Town Hall: - 160 Livingston Ave, Grimsby, ON L3M 0J5. Please note that credit cards are not accepted at Town Hall.
  • By Phone – Please call Paymentus toll free at: 1-844-224-9327 – a service fee is levied by Paymentus for each transaction.

If you do not pay your penalty or make arrangement to dispute the penalty notice within 15 days, you will be deemed not to dispute the offence. This will result in additional late charges and fees, a debt owing to the Town that may be collected as municipal taxes, and/or your Ontario Vehicle permit not being renewed by the Ministry of Transportation

If you do not pay the set fine, further administrative fees that may be applied, but are not limited to:

  • Late payment (16th day from due date of ticket or decision) 
  • MTO search (obtain ownership to send reminder or serve)                                                            

Disputing your Ticket - Screenings and Hearings

You have 15 days from the date of the penalty notice to request a screening. The screening decision will result in either ticket payment, adjustment or cancellation.

To dispute the penalty notice, schedule an appointment for a review by a Screening Officer. To schedule a screening appointment, you must complete the Request for Screening Form. You may also visit Town Hall at: 160 Livingston Ave, Grimsby, ON to request a paper copy. Failure to appear for a scheduled screening will result in a Non-Appearance Fee.

Only after a screening decision has been made, are you then able to dispute the outcome with a Hearing Officer. To dispute the decision of the Screening Officer you must, within 15 days of the date of decision, request a hearing. Please complete the Request for Hearing Form. Failure to appear for a hearing will result in an additional Non-Appearance Fee.

Please note, the decision of the Hearing Officer is final and binding. It cannot be reviewed by any court.
