Artist Call: Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre Mural Project

The Town of Grimsby, in collaboration with the Recreation, Facilities & Culture Department and a community selection panel, invites artists to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the design and creation of a large-scale mural at the newly redeveloped Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre (MRPKC).

This project offers an artist a unique opportunity to create a large-scale public artwork in one of Grimsby’s most important community spaces. The MRPKC is a vibrant hub where residents gather for recreation, wellness, cultural activities, and community events. The selected artist will design a mural that welcomes visitors and reflects the energy, identity, and spirit of Grimsby.

Through this Expression of Interest process, a shortlist of qualified artists will be selected, and one artist/collective will be commissioned to complete the final mural.

The mural will be installed on an interior lobby wall within the facility. Artists are invited to submit a concept that celebrates Grimsby as a place of community connection, activity, and belonging.

Strong proposals should consider how the artwork can:

• Reflect the history, culture, and values of the Grimsby community
• Recognize the MRPKC as a space for recreation, gathering, and connection for people of all ages
• Celebrate the Town’s identity, inclusivity, and community pride

All submissions will be reviewed by a selection jury of up to five members, and the final design will be approved by the project team prior to installation.

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following:

• Compatibility with the vision, scope, and goals of the project
• Artistic excellence in concept and technique
• Ability to inspire, engage, and resonate with a broad public audience
• Responsiveness to the specific context of the Peach King Centre
• Innovation, creativity, and originality of approach
• Administrative, ethical, and technical feasibility

Preference may be given to artists living or working in the Niagara Region.

• Proposal Deadline: April 17, 2026
• Jury Review & Notification of Selected Artist: April 30, 2026
