Grimsby Town Council is governed by a Mayor and eight councillors who serve a four-year term. The next term of council runs from December 2018 - November 2022.

The mayor is elected at large and the councillors are elected by ward. The town is divided into four wards with two councillors elected in each.

Council meeting schedule

Grimsby Town Council generally meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month. All meetings are open to the public and are televised live on COGECO cable (channel 10) locally.

Speaking at council as a delegation

Residents wishing to appear before council as a delegation must put their request in writing. Contact the Town Clerk directly to make your request.

Code of Conduct for members of council

In addition to their statutory responsibilities under the Municipal Act, the Mayor and Aldermen are subject to the Code of Conduct for Members of Council.

Standing committees

Four standing committees have been established that report into Town Council. Most matters are reviewed and voted on by one of the standing committees before being brought before Council for final approval. The standing committee structure allows for more in-depth discussion and review of the important work of the Town.
