Town of Grimsby Introduces Online Cloudpermit System
The Town of Grimsby is introducing a more streamlined, digital approach to municipal services with the implementation of Cloudpermit, a community development software used by local governments around the world. This online system manages building permit applications and inspection requests, allowing greater ease for residents in accessing their applications. Users will be able to start their application anytime, from anywhere — whether you’re a homeowner working on a project or a contractor managing multiple jobs. You’ll be able to upload drawings, track your application, message staff, and book inspections all in one place.
Cloudpermit guides users’ step by step through the permit application process, helping ensure submissions are complete and reducing the need for follow-up or revisions. The system automatically identifies and applies the correct application requirements, tracks processing timelines, and efficiently organizes key information, including properties and ownership details. For inspections, input notes and reports can be completed in the field, with inspection updates being able to be sent automatically to applicants and involved parties. Checklists are provided to ensure that all work has been completed, with the ability to schedule additional inspections if required.
A new webpage has been set up on the official Town of Grimsby website with additional information regarding types of building permits and how users can apply for and submit applications. Visit https://www.grimsby.ca/build-and-invest/building-division/applying-for-a-building-permit/ for helpful guides on this new application, as well as a direct link to the Cloudpermit website.

About Cloudpermit
Cloudpermit was created in 2011 with a mission to make community development software that works for local governments of all sizes. Starting as a Finnish project, Cloudpermit worked with the Finnish Ministry of the Environment and several municipalities across Finland to create an accessible and easy-to-use service that is now used by 80% of governments in the country.
Cloudpermit next made the move to Canada, building up partnerships and expanding their software to do much more for Canadian municipalities, including permitting, licensing, inspections, planning, by-law enforcement, and public works. They now work with more than 850 local governments that serve 45 million citizens.
Quotes:
“We are excited to bring this technology to the residents and developers we work with. Cloudpermit has been implemented by more than 100 municipalities in Ontario and has modernized the way building permits are processed. By streamlining the construction approval process, we eliminate the need for physical submissions, resulting in added convenience for both the public and staff to help save time and money for every application.”
- Paul Nickerson, Chief Building Official from the Town of Grimsby’s Building Division
“This is a big step for modernizing the building process at the Town of Grimsby. Implementing Cloudpermit is about making it easier for residents and businesses to work with us. By moving key services online, we’re improving accessibility, reducing processing times, and providing a more transparent and user-friendly experience for everyone.”
- Mayor Jeff Jordan, Town of Grimsby
