Town of Grimsby Earns National Recognition for HR Excellence
The Town of Grimsby has received national recognition for its work in human resources, earning an Excellence Awardee designation for Excellence in HR Team Performance (fewer than 500 employees) at the 2026 Canadian HR Awards.
The Town’s Human Resources team was recognized for its progressive, people-focused approach and initiatives supporting employee engagement, organizational culture, leadership and employee development, recruitment, performance management, workplace communication and service excellence.
Recent HR initiatives have included the implementation of the Town’s People Strategy, the launch of an in-house HR Hub, enhanced employee communication and engagement tools, strengthened recruitment and employer-branding practices, a renewed focus on performance management and employee wellness, and expanded leadership and employee development opportunities.
The Town was one of only 10 organizations from across Canada recognized in the category, placing Grimsby alongside organizations from a diverse range of industries and sectors both in private and public sector.
This achievement further demonstrates how a municipality of Grimsby’s size can develop innovative, people-focused practices that stand alongside those of organizations across Canada. The recognition marks the Town’s second national recognition for its work in human resources.
For Grimsby, the recognition extends beyond the Human Resources team. It reflects the collective contributions of employees and leaders across the organization and the Town’s continued commitment to building a positive, people-focused and high-performing workplace.
The Excellence in HR Team Performance category recognizes HR teams for their leadership, collaboration and contributions to organizational performance. Unlike awards focused specifically on the municipal or public sector, the Canadian HR Awards bring together organizations from across Canada and across industries, making Grimsby’s recognition particularly meaningful. The Town of Grimsby was celebrated as an Excellence Awardee at the Canadian HR Awards Gala.
