Town of Grimsby Celebrates Completion of the Peach King Centre Expansion and Renovation

The Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre (MRPKC) officially opened its doors today, with Mayor Jeff Jordan and members of Town Council welcoming Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, to mark the completion of Grimsby’s new community hub. The opening included a ceremonial ribbon cutting and community open house, inviting residents to explore the expanded, state-of-the-art facility and its wide range of new amenities designed to support recreation, wellness, and connection across the community.

This much-anticipated project was kick-started by a $16 million funding commitment from the Government of Ontario. Through a community-focused design process, Town Council approved the $36.7 million project, which officially broke ground in May 2024. Nineteen months later, the project has been completed under budget and is now ready to welcome residents, community user groups, and visitors to experience and benefit from the wide range of amenities the MRPKC now offers.

The expanded and renovated centre builds on the facility’s two existing arena ice pads and delivers a wide range of new and enhanced amenities designed to support sport, recreation and community use. Highlights include a dividable double gymnasium with an indoor walking track above, multi-use community rooms, a fully equipped fitness centre and fitness studio, a youth room and improvements to the West Pad dressing rooms. Enhancements extend beyond the building itself, with parking improvements, new pedestrian walkways and upgrades supporting safe access and active transportation across the Town Hall and Peach King Centre site.

The MRPKC will be a new home to a wide range of programs and community users. Local organizations such as the Grimsby Basketball Association, Grimsby Volleyball Association and Grimsby Pickleball Association will utilize the facility alongside Town-led fitness programs, summer camps, drop-in opportunities and activities for children and youth. The centre will also welcome the Grimsby 55+ Active Living Club, relocating its programming from the Livingston Activity Centre and continuing to support active living and social connection for older adults.

Following the grand opening celebration, the MRPKC is officially open to the public for regular programming. The facility will operate seven days a week, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Information about programs, services and facility use is available online at www.grimsby.ca.

The expansion and renovation of the Peach King Centre in the Town of Grimsby is part of the most ambitious capital plan in Ontario’s history, with investments of more than $220 billion over the next decade to build and expand infrastructure that will help keep workers on the job and support economic growth.”

"The grand opening of the expanded Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre is great news for the residents of the Town of Grimsby. I am pleased to have helped deliver millions in provincial funding to support this modern and enhanced recreational space.  This community hub - which includes a double gymnasium, walking track, fitness centre and multi-use rooms - will help provide more services and programs, fostering healthier and more active lifestyles for families in West Niagara."

  • Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West

“This project has been years in the making, and it’s rewarding to see the Peach King Centre Expansion and Renovation fully completed. With the recent opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, these two major projects represent a significant investment in the health, wellbeing, and future of our community. It has been rewarding to work alongside Town Council and the Province of Ontario to deliver these two transformative projects that will benefit Grimsby residents for generations to come.”
