The Town of Grimsby invites residents to join in Mayor’s Community Day, a free event happening at the Niagara West YMCA, 325 Main Street East, on Saturday, October 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Made possible through proceeds from the Town’s 2nd Annual Mayor’s Masters Golf Tournament, this special day is all about bringing people together to enjoy fun, fitness, and family activities.

Mayor’s Community Day Activities:

The event is free entry for the entire day with snacks, tours and fun for all ages.

  • 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Volleyball Skills (ages 6–12)
  • 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. – Family Swim

Mayor’s Community Day is an opportunity for residents of all ages to explore YMCA programs and services while enjoying a day of fun, fitness, and family connection. Activities include free fitness classes, children’s and youth programming, and a family swim.

The YMCA of Niagara, which has been rooted in the community since 1859, remains dedicated to inspiring lifelong growth, well-being, and community connection. Earlier this year, the Niagara West YMCA benefited from Grimsby’s Community Development Grant program, which provided funding for the Illuminate Potential project – upgrading lighting in the Aquatics Centre, Gymnasium, and Multi-Purpose Room. The project, completed in July 2025, replaced more than 70 outdated fixtures with modern, energy-efficient LEDs, improving safety, accessibility, and sustainability for all who use the facility.

The Town of Grimsby is proud to support initiatives like Mayor’s Community Day, which foster connection, promote active living, and ensure that local organizations have the resources they need to thrive. Together, we’re opening our doors to celebrate well-being, connection and the power of community.

Quotes

“Mayor’s Community Day is a chance to celebrate the partnerships that make our community stronger. Thanks to the support of the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Masters Golf Tournament and the YMCA’s commitment to health and well-being, we’re able to offer a free day of programs for families and residents to enjoy. I encourage everyone to come out, try something new, and see the great work being done to enhance our local YMCA.”

- Jeff Jordan, Mayor of the Town of Grimsby.

"Thanks to the support of the Town of Grimsby — and funding made possible by the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Masters Golf Tournament and the Illuminate Potential project — we’ve been able to make targeted upgrades that strengthen the Niagara West YMCA. Together, we replaced outdated lighting in the Aquatics Centre, Gymnasium, and Multi-Purpose Room with modern, energy-efficient LED fixtures — improving safety, visibility, and accessibility for everyone who uses these spaces. It has quite literally lit up the branch, making it brighter and more welcoming for the community. Mayor’s Community Day is a reflection of our shared commitment to building opportunities for connection, health, and well-being — and to ensuring the YMCA remains a welcoming space for everyone."

- Christian Wulff, CEO, YMCA of Niagara

"The Town of Grimsby and the Niagara West YMCA teaming up for Mayor’s Community Day was a natural fit. Together, we envisioned a day when the doors of our YMCA would be thrown open, inviting residents of all ages to discover what the Y can be for them — a place to be active, connect with others, and find that sense of belonging beyond work, school and home. We can’t wait to welcome the community in for a day of movement, fun, and discovery."

- Ben McDermott, General Manager, Health, Fitness & Aquatics
