The Downtown Reimagined Weekly Dispatch – September 18, 2026
Current Work
Crews continued night work on Main Street East this week between Kingsway Boulevard and Robinson Street, and watermain has now been installed the full length of this stretch. There will be no work tonight, September 18, so crews will resume Monday night, September 21, for approximately two to three more nights to finish the remaining branch connections at Kingsway and Rossmore and the last of the service installations.
Looking Ahead (Week of September 21)
Night work resumes Monday, September 21, with crews expecting two to three nights to wrap up this section, followed by a day of no construction activity as the crew transitions back to daytime hours. From there, crews move to Main Street West, mobilizing to the section between Forty Mile Creek and Patton Street, where work will run with one lane of alternating two-way traffic.
Traffic Impacts
Main Street East is closed overnight Monday through Wednesday/Thursday while crews finish this stretch; local traffic will be accommodated, and no through traffic will be permitted. Once work begins on Main Street West, that section will operate with one lane of alternating two-way traffic. Emergency contact during closures: 905-658-8075.
September 23: Virtual Construction Information Session
Downtown businesses and residents are invited to a virtual information session to discuss upcoming construction work and anticipated impacts. A member of the Town of Grimsby project team will provide the latest updates on Phase 1 construction, including upcoming work, anticipated traffic and parking impacts, and what to expect as work progresses.
Downtown Grimsby remains open and accessible throughout construction. The Construction Passport continues through September 30, the Grimsby Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday behind Town Hall through October 8, and the Terry Fox Run takes place September 20.
