The Downtown Reimagined Weekly Dispatch – October 13, 2026
Construction continues this week on Main Street West and at the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection. While challenging underground conditions have extended some construction timelines, crews continue to make progress on these important infrastructure improvements.
Here's what residents, businesses and visitors need to know about this week's construction activities and traffic impacts.
Current Work – Week of October 12
Watermain Installation: Main Street West (Forty Mile Creek to just beyond Patton Street)
Watermain installation continues along Main Street West. Crews have encountered existing Bell infrastructure encased in concrete, which has delayed completion of this stage.
Once this work is complete, crews will move to Mountain Street between Elm Street and Main Street.
Night Work: Elm Street and Mountain Street Intersection
Following overnight work last week, construction will resume tonight, Tuesday, October 13, at 8:00 p.m.
Challenging ground conditions and difficulties connecting to the existing sanitary sewer system have slowed progress. Crews are expected to continue working overnight for the remainder of the week to maintain momentum and minimize disruptions associated with switching between day and night shifts.
The intersection is expected to reopen each morning at approximately 6:00 a.m.
Traffic Impacts
The following traffic measures will be in place during construction:
-
Main Street West (Forty Mile Creek to just beyond Patton Street): One lane of alternating two-way traffic will be maintained during daytime construction. No detour is required.
-
Main Street West and Christie Street: The left-turn lane remains closed.
-
Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection: Closed to through traffic overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., beginning Tuesday, October 13. Detours will be in place for cars and heavy trucks.
-
Elm Street and Mountain Street: Local access will be maintained as dead-end roadways while the intersection is closed.
-
Mountain Street (Elm Street to Main Street): An additional closure is planned. Further details will be shared as they become available.
-
Downtown parking lots: Remain accessible throughout construction.
