The Downtown Reimagined Weekly Dispatch – November 6, 2026

Another major milestone for Downtown Reimagined! All of the project's new watermain has officially been installed, marking a significant achievement and another exciting step forward in the transformation of our downtown.

And there's more good news! Weather permitting, paving on Main Street West and Christie Street is scheduled to begin Sunday night, November 15.

Current Work

This week, crews worked both day and night shifts to complete the remaining watermain and service work along Main Street and Christie Street. With work on Christie Street now complete, all sections of the project's new watermain have officially been installed!

This marks a significant achievement and another exciting step forward in the transformation of our downtown.

The next step is to complete the remaining mainline and service connections throughout the project area. Crews will connect the newly installed pipes to the existing watermain system and individual properties, bringing us another step closer to completing this important infrastructure upgrade.

More progress was made this week as the new watermains on Elm Street, Main Street East and Rossmore Avenue successfully passed their pressure tests! This clears the way for disinfection and bacteria testing to begin next week, with final connections to follow.

Crews also began sanitary lateral repairs on Mountain Street between Elm Street and Main Street.

Looking Ahead (Week of November 9)

Next week, both crews will return to day shifts, focusing their efforts on completing the remaining sanitary lateral repairs on Mountain Street. This work is expected to wrap up by the end of the week.

Starting Thursday, November 12, crews will also begin swabbing the remaining new watermain on Mountain Street, Main Street and Christie Street, followed by pressure testing.

Paving is coming to Main Street West and Christie Street!

Weather permitting, paving is scheduled to begin Sunday night, November 15, at 8:00 p.m. and is expected to take approximately two shifts.

To accommodate this work, the Main Street and Christie Street intersection will be closed overnight, reopening each morning at 7:00 a.m. until paving is complete.

Once paving is finished, Mountain Street between Elm Street and Main Street is also expected to reopen to traffic.

Traffic Impacts

As construction continues, please keep the following traffic impacts in mind:

  • Mountain Street: The section between Elm Street and Main Street remains closed to through traffic, with the existing detour in place. The road is expected to reopen once paving is complete.

  • Main Street and Christie Street: Beginning Sunday, November 15, the intersection will be closed overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until paving is complete. The intersection will reopen each morning at 7:00 a.m.

  • Local traffic: Drivers are reminded to follow the designated detours outlined in the local traffic plan.

  • Heavy trucks: Trucks travelling between Mountain Road and the QEW must continue to use the regional truck detour:

    • Hamilton: Red Hill Valley Parkway and Mud Street West

    • Grimsby: Mountain Road and Mud Street East/West

    • Vineland: Victoria Avenue and Fly Road

Please plan ahead, follow posted signage and allow extra travel time when moving through the construction area.
