Temporary Waste Collection Services Available for Flood-Affected Residents

Following recent widespread flooding across Niagara, temporary enhanced waste collection services are available to Grimsby residents whose properties have been affected by flooding.

The Town of Grimsby continues to work with Niagara Region on storm response and recovery efforts. Niagara Region is providing additional waste collection and disposal options to help residents safely dispose of flood-related waste.

Temporary Waste Services

Temporary services available to all flood-affected residents in Grimsby include:

• Garbage limits lifted: From August 10 to 14, curbside garbage limits are lifted for flood-related waste on your regular collection day.
• Large item collection: Residents do not need to book flood-related large items for curbside collection. There is no limit to the number of flood-related large items that can be placed at the curb on your scheduled collection day.
• Landfill tipping fees waived: From August 7 to 15, tipping fees are waived at the Niagara Road 12 Landfill for flood-related waste. A maximum of one pickup truck or trailer load per household applies.

Visiting the Niagara Road 12 Landfill

Residents using the Niagara Road 12 Landfill for waived tipping fees are asked to:

• Bring identification showing you live in an eligible area.
• Limit disposal to a maximum of one pickup truck or trailer load per household.
• Cross the inbound and outbound weigh scales for processing.
• Follow all site rules, including sorting materials into the appropriate disposal areas.
• Plan for longer wait times due to higher volumes.
• Follow the direction of staff, as vehicles may be metered onto the site to help manage traffic flow and maintain safety.

Waste facilities will close at their regularly scheduled times. Vehicles already on-site before closing will be processed; however, vehicles waiting outside the gate at closing will not be admitted.

Contractors bringing material from an affected property may present a work order from that property as proof of eligibility. The maximum of one pickup truck or trailer load still applies.

Please note: The waste and recycling drop-off depot is only available to residents of Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham and West Lincoln. The household hazardous waste depot is open to all Niagara residents.
