Notice of Commencement Issued for Grimsby GO Station Project

After many years of advocacy and anticipation, an important milestone has been reached for the future of transit in Grimsby.

Niagara Region, in partnership with Metrolinx, has issued the Notice of Commencement for the planning process that will move forward work on the future Grimsby GO Station. This marks the start of a formal provincial review process that will study the project, gather community input, and assess potential environmental considerations.

The Grimsby GO Station is part of broader transit expansion along the Lakeshore West rail corridor between Hamilton and Niagara Falls, which will bring expanded rail service to Niagara Region. The new station will be located between the future Confederation GO Station in east Hamilton and the St. Catharines GO Station, improving access to the GO Transit network for residents and businesses across the region.

The proposed station area is located south of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) interchange and west of Casablanca Boulevard in Grimsby.

What the Project Could Include

The station is expected to be delivered in phases and may include features such as:

  • A customer platform for GO Train service
  • Station infrastructure to support rail operations
  • A bus loop connecting GO Bus and on-demand Niagara Region Transit services, with the future plan to include fixed route connections
  • Customer shelters and fare payment kiosks
  • Digital screens with real-time travel information
  • Parking areas, bicycle racks, and pick-up/drop-off zones
  • Pedestrian access to the station

As part of the process, the project team will study potential environmental impacts and identify ways to reduce or avoid any negative effects.

A Major Step Forward for Grimsby

The Town of Grimsby has long advocated for improved transit connections for residents and businesses. The addition of a GO Station in Grimsby has been a priority for the community for many years, and this milestone represents meaningful progress toward making that vision a reality.

Mayor Jordan, Members of Council and Town Staff will continue working closely with Niagara Region and Metrolinx as the project moves forward and will share updates with the community as more information becomes available.
