New Pedestrian Crossover Now Fully Operational
The Town of Grimsby is pleased to announce that a new Type C Pedestrian Crossover (PXO) at the intersection of Nelles Road South and Kennedy Drive is now fully operational.
As one of the final steps in completing the Nelles Road South and Dorchester Drive sidewalk project, this new crossing brings important upgrades designed to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and traffic operations in the area.
The upgraded PXO features:
- Flashing warning lights that activate when pedestrians want to cross
- Pushbuttons with audible signals to assist people who are visually impaired
- Solar panels to help power the equipment
- Improved visibility for both pedestrians and drivers
This marks the first PXO installed on Town roads in Grimsby, representing another step forward in creating safer and more accessible transportation infrastructure for the community.
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new crossing features and use extra caution when travelling through the area.
How to Use the PXO
For pedestrians:
- Press the pushbutton to activate the flashing beacons
- Make eye contact with drivers or clearly signal your intent to cross
- Wait at the curb until traffic has come to a complete stop in both directions before entering the crosswalk
For drivers:
- Slow down and watch for pedestrians waiting to cross or already in the roadway
- Stop at the marked stop line when the flashing beacons are activated
- Remain stopped until pedestrians have completely crossed and the crossover is clear
All road users are reminded to follow posted signage and use caution when approaching the crossing.
And for those travelling through the area – keep an eye out for the new upgrades next time you’re on Nelles Road South!
