New 4-Way Stop Now in Effect on Ontario Street

If you've driven along Ontario Street recently, you may have noticed something new.

A new 4-way stop is now in effect at the intersection of Ontario Street and Clarke Street following a review of traffic volumes and intersection operations conducted by the Town of Grimsby and Niagara Region. As traffic volumes have increased over time, the intersection was reassessed and determined to meet the warrants for all-way stop control. The change is intended to improve safety and the overall operation of the intersection for all road users.

Town and Regional staff collaborated to implement the change, which includes new stop signs, pavement markings and advance warning signage to help motorists recognize the new traffic pattern and adjust safely.

The new traffic control is intended to improve both traffic safety and the overall operation of the intersection for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

As drivers become familiar with the new configuration, please remember to:

  • Come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
  • Yield to vehicles that arrived at the intersection first.
  • Watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Allow extra time and be patient as everyone adjusts to the new traffic pattern.

The Town of Grimsby thanks residents for their cooperation and commitment to helping keep our roads safe.
