Mayor Jordan Outlines Grimsby’s Position on Municipal Governance Reform
Mayor Jeff Jordan has issued a new letter to Premier Doug Ford, outlining the Town of Grimsby’s position regarding Regional Governance in Niagara.
Residents can read the full letter here.
This correspondence should be read alongside the joint letter submitted by eight Niagara Mayors – representing two-thirds of the municipalities within the Regional Municipality of Niagara – which presents a shared regional approach to governance modernization.
The joint letter is also available here.
Grimsby’s Position
The Town of Grimsby remains opposed to any forced amalgamation undertaken without meaningful consultation with local municipalities and residents.
While the Town understands and shares the Province’s commitment to strengthening efficiency, accountability, and value for taxpayers, any governance reform must be:
- Transparent
- Evidence-based
- Supported by sound data
- Informed by meaningful public engagement
Mayor Jordan has emphasized that thoughtful, collaborative reform – not imposed restructuring – is the appropriate path forward for Niagara.
