What is the Official Plan, and why should you care?

Every municipality in Ontario must have an Official Plan – it's the long-term guide that directs how land is used. In simple terms, it helps ensure that as Grimsby grows, it grows in a thoughtful, balanced, and sustainable way.

What the Draft Plan aims to do:

• Reflect Council’s and the community’s priorities while aligning with provincial plans and policies
• Integrate key elements from the Region of Niagara’s Official Plan
• Make the document clearer, more accessible, and easier for everyone to navigate
• Set the direction for how Grimsby will develop and change over time

The Draft Plan has also been shaped by recent legislation, including updated provincial policies such as allowing additional residential units on certain urban residential lots. These changes ensure that the Plan reflects today’s housing and growth realities.
