Grimsby Recognized Among Canada’s Most Livable Communities
Grimsby has been recognized as one of Canada’s most livable places to call home in The Globe and Mail’s latest Canada’s Most Livable Cities rankings – an achievement that reflects the strength, spirit and shared efforts of our entire community.
Ranking #37 nationally out of the top 100 cities evaluated, Grimsby is proud to be:
- #10 among medium-sized cities in all of Canada (population 30,000–99,999)
- #8 in all of Ontario (all population sizes)
- #2 among medium-sized cities in Ontario (population 30,000–99,999)
- #2 among medium-sized cities in Ontario ranked by best features. This is based on factors such as access to amenities, community vibrancy, health care, safety and climate.
Notably, Grimsby has been named one of only two Niagara municipalities to rank in The Globe and Mail’s Top 100 Most Livable Cities in Canada. This recognition highlights what makes our community distinct, while also reflecting the broader strength and livability of the Niagara region as a whole.
About the Ranking
Now in its third edition, The Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Most Livable Cities ranking evaluates 454 communities using 58 variables across 10 key categories, including health care, housing, safety, education, transportation, amenities and climate resilience. This year’s methodology also introduced new climate and health care indicators, offering a more holistic picture of what livability truly means.
Recognizing that livability looks different for everyone, the ranking allows readers to compare communities by population size and life stage, acknowledging that factors like pace of life, access to services and community connection matter just as much as economic data.
A Collective Achievement
While no community is perfect, Grimsby’s strong showing reflects the everyday choices, care and collaboration that shape life here – from local businesses and community groups, to volunteers, residents, Town Council and municipal services working together to create a place where people can truly thrive.
This recognition is a moment to celebrate the people who call Grimsby home, and a reminder that thoughtful planning, community investment and shared pride can make a meaningful difference.

"This recognition is a testament to the people of Grimsby – our residents, local businesses, volunteers and community groups – who make this town such a wonderful place to live. While our municipal team works to plan and support the community, it’s the collective spirit and everyday contributions of everyone who calls Grimsby home that truly make this possible."
