Downtown Reimagined Project Update – June 25, 2026

In case you missed it, the Downtown Reimagined Project has officially reached a milestone years in the making. The official Groundbreaking Ceremony on June 22 marked the formal start of construction in Grimsby's downtown core, a proud moment that brought together residents, businesses, Town staff, and project partners.

What Residents Need to Know Now

  • Active construction begins the week of July 6. Crews will start on Elm Street between Gibson Street and Mountain Street, installing a new watermain pipe to cross under Forty Mile Creek using trenchless technology – meaning no open trench through the watercourse. The pipe is assembled above ground and fed through a tunnel created by a drilling machine. Construction takes place during daytime hours only.
  • Traffic impacts will be limited. Elm Street remains open in both directions throughout watermain installation. Moving construction equipment may cause some intermittent disruptions to traffic flow.
  • Book your free pre-condition survey. Property owners near construction areas are strongly encouraged to book a free inspection with dBA Services Inc. before work begins in their area. To book, call or text (905) 383-9491, toll-free (833) 212-4858, or email pcs@dbaservices.ca (Mon–Fri, 9 am–5 pm). Booking remains available as long as construction hasn't started in your area.
  • Music on the Forty – this Thursday. The final show of the 2026 season takes place June 25 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in Coronation Park, with headliner Groove Miller. Admission is free and all are welcome. Weather dependent — follow @DowntownGrimsby for cancellation notice one hour before showtime.
  • The Farmers' Market has moved. Starting June 25, the Grimsby Farmers' Market will operate from the newly-renovated Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre at 162 Livingston Avenue through October 8.
  • The Construction StoryWalk launches July 2. Families can read Mighty, Mighty Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker across 16 participating downtown businesses from Main St. West to Elm St. — a self-guided walking route running until August 28. Learn more at downtowngrimsby.com.
  • Downtown is open for business. In partnership with the Downtown Grimsby BIA and Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, access to local shops, restaurants, and services will be maintained throughout construction.

The Town remains committed to providing timely updates and clear communication as construction progresses. Residents are encouraged to stay connected and follow the Downtown Reimagined Project for the latest news, milestones, and construction updates.
