Downtown Reimagined Project Update – July 31, 2026

Another week of work has wrapped on the Downtown Reimagined Project!

Current Work 

Crews are completing watermain, sanitary lateral, and hydrant work on Elm Street between Forty Mile Creek and Mountain Street. Because this work is close to the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection, additional traffic control and police presence have been added to support safe traffic movement through the area. 

Looking Ahead (Week of August 3) 

Once this section is complete, crews will move east, skipping the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection for now, to begin watermain and sanitary work between Mountain Street and Main Street East. A second crew is joining the project to help maintain the construction schedule. There will be no construction activity on Monday, August 3 in observance of the Civic Holiday. Work resumes Tuesday, August 4. 

Traffic Impacts 

Elm Street remains open to alternating one-way traffic during daytime construction hours, with traffic control personnel on site. Additional police presence is supporting traffic control given the proximity to the Elm Street and Mountain Street intersection. Short, intermittent delays may occur as equipment moves through the work zone. No detours are required at this time.

Downtown Grimsby remains open and accessible throughout construction. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take part in the Construction StoryWalk (running until August 28) and the Construction Passport program (running until September 30). 

Coronation Park keeps the summer going with Music in the Park every Thursday through August 20; Movies in the Park on August 7, 14, and 28; and Comedy Night every Wednesday in August, presented in partnership with the Downtown Grimsby BIA, the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, and the Town of Grimsby.
