Downtown Reimagined Project Update – July 3, 2026

Construction is officially underway on Elm Street, and the next two weeks bring some of the most significant and visible work to date.

Here's what residents and visitors need to know right now:

  • The Construction StoryWalk has launched. Starting July 2, a family-friendly StoryWalk runs through 15 participating downtown businesses along Main St W and Elm St, following the pages of Mighty, Mighty Construction Site. It's free and runs until August 28. Find the full route at DowntownGrimsby.com.

  • Trenchless watermain installation begins the week of July 6. Crews will mobilize on site and begin drilling a tunnel beneath Forty Mile Creek to install the new watermain, pulling the new pipe through to the other side without excavating the creek bed. Elm Street remains open to two-way traffic throughout. Construction takes place during daytime hours only.

  • Open cut watermain work starts the week of July 13. Crews begin installing new watermain between Gibson Street and Mountain Street on Elm Street. Elm Street stays open during installation, though brief narrowing to one lane may occur during water service work, with traffic control in place.

  • The Construction Passport launches July 13. Pick up a passport at any participating business, collect 8 stamps from 8 different businesses with a $20+ qualifying purchase, and you're in to win. Grand prize is a $1,000 gift card to participating downtown businesses. Over 30 businesses are participating. Details at DowntownGrimsby.com.

  • Ongoing Pre-construction surveys. Property owners near construction areas are strongly encouraged to book a free photographic inspection of their property with dBA Services Inc. before work begins in their area. Call or text (905) 383-9491, toll-free (833) 212-4858, or email pcs@dbaservices.ca (Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.).

  • Downtown is open for business. In partnership with the Downtown Grimsby BIA and Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, access to local shops, restaurants, and services is being maintained throughout construction. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue supporting downtown businesses.

The Town remains committed to providing timely updates and clear communication as construction progresses. Residents are encouraged to stay connected and follow the Downtown Reimagined project for the latest news and construction updates.
