Downtown Reimagined Project Update: July 10, 2026

It’s been a big week for the Downtown Reimagined project! Directional drilling beneath Forty Mile Creek was successfully completed on Wednesday, marking one of the most technically complex milestones of Phase 1. Crews have now transitioned to open-cut watermain installation on Elm Street between Forty Mile Creek and Gibson Street.

What Residents Need to Know Now

  • Directional drilling under the Forty Mile Creek is complete. As of Wednesday morning, the new watermain pipe is in place beneath the creek bed, and crews have moved directly into open cut watermain installation on Elm Street, working from the creek toward Gibson Street.
  • Signage is up and the site compound is taking shape. Project and “Open for Business” signage is going up throughout the work zones, and the contractor’s site compound at Main Street East and Elm Street is taking shape, with trailers being set up and power being connected.
  • Week of July 13: watermain work continues toward Mountain Street. Crews continue watermain installation on Elm Street between Gibson and Mountain, with service installations to follow in that section.
  • Week of July 13: monitoring wells are decommissioned. This includes a tentative half-day single-lane closure on Main Street near Patton (Tuesday). No additional traffic impact is expected at the Elm Street monitoring well location.
  • Traffic plan for this phase: construction takes place during daytime hours. Elm Street remains open to alternating two-way traffic with traffic control persons in place. Main Street West stays open to two-way traffic with lane adjustments. Moving equipment may cause brief, intermittent delays, and no detour routes are required at this stage. • Pre-construction surveys are wrapping up. dBA Services Inc. has now contacted all eligible property owners within the construction limits, and no additional surveys will be scheduled after this final round.
  • The Construction Passport program launches July 13, inviting residents to shop local while supporting downtown businesses during the Downtown Reimagined project. Led by Downtown Grimsby in partnership with the Town of Grimsby and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, the program runs through September 30. Pick up a passport at any participating business, collect eight stamps from eight different businesses with a qualifying purchase of $20 or more, and you'll be entered to win. Prizes include a $1,000 grand prize in Downtown Grimsby gift cards, three $200 prizes, and four $25 prizes. More than 30 businesses are participating. Visit DowntownGrimsby.com for details.
The Construction StoryWalk continues through August 28. A free, family-friendly walking route through 15 participating downtown businesses, following the pages of Mighty, Mighty Construction Site. Full route at DowntownGrimsby.com.
  • Downtown is open for business. In partnership with the Downtown Grimsby BIA and Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, access to local shops, restaurants, and services is being maintained throughout construction.

The Town remains committed to providing timely updates and clear communication as construction progresses. Residents are encouraged to stay connected and follow the Downtown Reimagined project for the latest news and construction updates.
