Downtown Reimagined Project Update – August 28, 2026

The Downtown Reimagined project continues to make progress as watermain installation reaches the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, and prepares to move into its next stage, with four nights of overnight construction within the intersection.

Current Work

Crews have completed watermain installation up to the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, including the branch at Oak Street, and continue installing water services along Elm Street.

Watermain installation also began along Balsam Lane but was paused after crews encountered an unmarked hydro line. As a result, the planned watermain and service installation within the Balsam Lane Public Parking Lot has been postponed until the required underground utility locates are received. The parking lot remains open and accessible while the work is rescheduled.

Looking Ahead: Week of August 31

Beginning Monday, August 31, crews will move into the intersection of Main Street East and Elm Street to install watermain and services. Because this work requires a full closure, it will be completed overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, to minimize impacts on businesses and daytime traffic and help keep the work zone safer for crews.

Traffic Impacts

The Main and Elm intersection will be closed to through traffic overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, through Thursday, September 3. The intersection will reopen each morning before 7:00 a.m.

Local traffic will be accommodated outside the closure to the nearest cross street, and signed detour routes will be in place.

Downtown remains open for business throughout construction.
