Downtown Reimagined Project Update – August 21, 2026
Downtown Reimagined construction continues to advance along Elm Street, with two crews working to complete watermain and service installations.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
This week, the mainline watermain crew progressed past the Grimsby Benevolent Fund (GBF) entrance, while a second crew continued service installations along Elm Street. Despite challenging underground conditions, including existing utilities, rock and large boulders, progress picked up.
Due to the concentration of buried wires and utilities, nearly all excavation associated with service installation is being completed using a hydro vacuum truck.
LOOKING AHEAD – WEEK OF AUGUST 24
The mainline crew will continue toward Main Street East but will stop before entering the intersection. Once this installation is complete, crews will double back to install the watermain branch extending from Elm Street into Balsam Lane, anticipated to begin Wednesday or Thursday.
Service installations will continue along Elm Street throughout the week.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
As work approaches Main Street East, the left-turn lane from Main Street East onto Elm Street will temporarily close.
When work shifts to Balsam Lane, the main parking lot entrance will temporarily close and some parking spaces will be fenced off. Vehicles can enter from Elm Street using the one-way entrance in front of the LCBO and will exit at Mountain Street.
Motorists should follow posted signage and traffic control personnel through the area.
DOWNTOWN IS OPEN
There’s still time to enjoy summer downtown. The final Comedy Night takes place August 26, the Construction StoryWalk wraps up August 28, Movies in the Park returns August 28, and the Construction Passport continues through September 30.
