Changes to Niagara Region’s Blue/Grey Box program
Beginning January 1, 2024, Niagara Region’s residential Blue/Grey recycling program will no longer be managed by the Region and Grimsby’s collection contractor (known as Circular Materials Ontario) will take on responsibility for the program.
This change is in response to Provincial regulations. In June 2021, producers of recycling materials became fully responsible for their products and packaging.
Things to know for January 1, 2024:
- Residents may continue to pick up their Green Bins, Kitchen Catchers and Black Compost Bins from the Peach King Centre, 162 Livingston Ave, Grimsby.
- Blue and Grey Boxes will be managed by GFL Environmental Inc. Please call 1-855-769-3760 or email niagararecycling@gflenv.com to purchase, replace or obtain new Blue/Grey boxes.
- Residents can continue to use the same Blue and Grey boxes, and recycle the same materials (with the exception of books and sandwich/freezer bags).
- There will be no change to collection days, frequency or collection time. Residents should continue to have materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.
This transition does not affect other waste services. Niagara Region will continue to collect garbage, Green Bin, leaf and yard waste and large household items.
If you have questions about your Blue Box or Grey Box collection, contact the collection contractor in Grimsby: GFL Environmental Inc. 1-855-769-3760 or niagararecycling@gflenv.com
Niagara Region Waste App users can continue to receive Blue Box and Grey Box information through the app.
