Century Condos Crane Removal to Require Temporary Main Street East Closure
Motorists and members of the public are advised that Regional Road 81 (Main Street East) will be temporarily closed to through traffic from Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. to Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 11:59 a.m. (weather permitting).
The closure will be in effect on Main Street East between Elm Street and approximately 70 metres southeast of Elm Street, in the vicinity of #23 Regional Road 81 (Main Street East) / Century Condos development, to facilitate crane removal operations associated with new development work.
Traffic Impacts & Access
- The roadway will be fully closed to through traffic within the work zone
- A hard closure (impassible by traffic) will be in place between Elm Street and 70 metres southeasterly
- A soft closure (local traffic only) will be in place between 70 metres southeasterly of Elm Street and Robinson Street North
- Detour routes will be in place to guide traffic around the area of the closure
- Emergency services will not have through access during the closure
- Businesses and residents in the area will remain accessible; however, detours may be necessary depending on location
Detour Routes
Eastbound traffic:
- Main Street West → Ontario Street → John Street → Robinson Street North → Main Street East
Westbound traffic:
- Main Street East → Robinson Street North → John Street → Ontario Street → Main Street West
Additional Information
This work is scheduled overnight and into the morning to help minimize daytime disruption. Main Street East is expected to reopen as soon as crane removal activities are safely completed.
While this work is not part of the Downtown Reimagined project, it will temporarily impact travel within the downtown area. The closure is not expected to impact the Farmers’ Market on Thursday, June 18, 2026, or weekend community events.
Following the reopening:
- Construction fencing will remain along the boulevard
- The north-side sidewalk will remain closed
- Temporary pedestrian crossing signals near Kingsway Boulevard will remain in place
