Participate in TD Summer Reading Club

Join the TD Summer Reading Club at the Grimsby Public Library. Kids 12 and under can read for fun and participate in activities and contests that explore the natural world!

Dates

  • Begins: Tuesday, July 2
  • Ends: Saturday, August 24 

Hours

Visit the TD Summer Reading Club desk:

  • Monday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

How to register

Visit the TD Summer Reading Club Desk to register your children on or after Tuesday, July 2.

At registration your child will receive:

  • 1 TD Summer Reading Club notebook
    (To track reading and collect stickers)
  • 1 unique web access code to create an online notebook 
    (Go to www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca to store virtual stickers and track reading online)
  • 1 Animal Reading Buddy to put up at the library
    (kids can add a sticker to their Reading Buddy for each book they read)

Kids can join in by reading books, visiting the library and participating in fun weekly activities and contests.

 Read books
  • Kids can read books all summer long and record them in their cool TD Summer Reading Club notebook (where they will find other fun activities to try, too)
  • They can record their books online as well by visiting www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca and using their unique web access code
  • All books (including audiobooks and e-books) count, and they do not have to be from the library's collections
  • Accessible versions of the notebook are available on the TD Summer Reading Club website
 Visit the library to share

Kids can visit the library to share what they read with TD Summer Reading Club staff. There is a maximum of 3 titles per visit.

For each book your child reads, they will receive:

  • A sticker for their TD Summer Reading Club notebook
  • A sticker for their Animal Reading Buddy
  • Their choice of a small reward
Participate in contests

Weekly contests

  • Kids can enter weekly TD Summer Reading Club contests from July 2 to August 24
  • Go to the TD Summer Reading Club desk during open hours to get contest information and submit ballots
  • A winner is drawn from all correct entries and will be contacted on the following Monday

Photo contest

Kids ages 5 to 12 can enter photos they take on the topic “the natural world” to win prizes!

  • Pick up a contest submission form at the TD Summer Reading Club desk in the library.

 Participate in activities

There are lots of games, make-and-takes and events to participate in this summer at the library. Kids can:

  • Explore computer programming on Tech Tuesdays (July 9 - August 20);
  • Enjoy drop-in story times every Tuesday (July 9 - August 13);
  • And explore the natural world with a different interactive activity with Thursday Kids (July 4 - August 22)!

Why join the TD Summer Reading Club?
First of all, it's FREE! More importantly, it inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way, and celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories.
What is in my TD Summer Reading Club notebook?

Your child can record their reading in their TD Summer Reading Club notebook. There are two versions of the notebook:

  • The pre-reader notebook (ages 0 to 5) notebook contains information about reading readiness and activities to encourage early literacy skills.
  • The school-aged children's notebook (ages 6 to 12) contains a nature scavenger hunt and ideas for STEAM activities

Both notebooks include lots of space to record the books your child has read and collect stickers

What is my unique web access code for?
  • At registration your child will receive a unique web access code printed on a sticker
  • Use it to create an online TD Summer Reading Club notebook at www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca on or after July 2
  • Use the online notebook to record reading online and store virtual stickers 
What is an Animal Reading Buddy?
  • At registration your child will choose an Animal Reading Buddy
  • These are animal figures with your child's first name and last initial that are put up on  our TD Summer Reading Club display wall
  • When your child visits the TD Summer Reading Club desk, they will receive a sticker for each item read to stick onto their Animal Reading Buddy 
Is there an accessible version of the TD Summer Reading Club notebook?
  • Visit the TD Summer Reading Club website to download an accessible version of the notebook; available in various formats.
  • Ask about other accessible activities at the TD Summer Reading Club desk, or by calling 905-945-5142
What if my child wants to participate but will be away this summer?
  • Your child is welcome to join even if they will be away for the summer
  • Just register on or after July 2 to pick up the registration materials plus a sheet of stickers.
  • You can help your child track their reading, and award a sticker each time they finish reading or listening to a book or other reading materials. 
  • They can also track their reading online at on the TD Summer Reading Club website on or after July 2.
What is the theme of the 2019 TD Summer Reading Club?
The TD Summer Reading Club theme for 2019 is "The Natural World". We have developed children's activities and contests related to the environment and the many creatures that coexist with us.
