Downtown Reimagined Project Launch

Grimsby, ON –

The Town of Grimsby is delighted to share some exciting first steps in our Downtown Reimagined Project.

You may have noticed a new Downtown Parklet! This temporary demonstration project aims to encourage people to dream about the future of our downtown and encourage our community to take part in shaping the future of the downtown through our Downtown Reimagined project. “Now’s the time to plan for streetscape improvements in time for the downtown watermain replacement”, said the Town of Grimsby Mayor Jeff Jordan. “We’re excited to deliver this revitalization project to the community and shape the downtown core for years to come.”

Downtown Reimagined aims to create a space that will bring together pedestrians, cyclists and motorists in a safe and sustainable manner.

The project stemmed from the need to upgrade the aging watermain on Main Street allowing for concurrent above ground streetscape improvements. In a direct and indirect way, this project contributes to all of Town Council’s Strategic Priorities and helps our community advance COVID-recovery efforts.

“This is an exciting project for Town staff, Council, and the community. This project will provide many meaningful positive impacts for the Town of Grimsby and all its residents,” said Harry Schlange, CAO for the Town of Grimsby.

Together, Town Staff and Niagara Region, are looking forward to working with a myriad of stakeholders and the public to create a shared vision and design for the Downtown Grimsby streetscape and the parklet project is a glimpse into what that vision might include.

We are grateful for the private investment in this alleyway which further demonstrates the many possibilities of our downtown. “My goal in creating this space alongside and with the support of the Town of Grimsby, is to demonstrate to the community the potential our downtown has to bring our community together whether it is to walk, shop, dine, meet with friends or enjoy the beautiful escarpment. I feel privileged to be a part of the downtown business community here in Grimsby and I hope that business owners and building owners alike will see the space as an inspiration, to envision what we could create alongside the Town of Grimsby embracing the Downtown Reimagined project,” says Kevin Luttjehuizen owner of Harmony Jewellers and Boone Dog Offices.

The Town of Grimsby encourages everyone to get involved and join the conversation! For more information on the project visit Letstalkgrimsby.ca
