Library Lego Club
1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month/ 3:30 - 4:30PM until June 19
Starting July 3, Lego Club is 6:00-7:00PM
Children ages 6- 12 are invited to participate.

Grimsby loves Lego! We've had such an enthusiastic response to our Lego Club for kids 6 - 12 that we'll be meeting twice as often. Join us on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 3:30 - 4:30PM. While budding architects and engineers are hard at work, parents can relax with a magazine or check out materials for the whole family to enjoy at home. Your Lego lovers might enjoy something from our expanded collection of children's non-fiction. Parents and the Grimsby Public Library - building literacy together.

Board Games
Board Games continue during summer vacation,running from 3:30-4:30 PM every Wednesday. Parents and kids can enjoy games like Trouble, Boggle, Bananagrams, and Connect-4. Try it!

Tell Tails Reading Program
Tuesdays / 6:30 – 7:30 PM / Ages 6 - 12
Tell Tails continues during July and August on Tuesday evenings.

TherapyTails niagara

Tell Tails is a free drop-in reading program, running Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. It's for elementary school children who would benefit from reading practice and would enjoy reading to a friendly, non-judgmental therapy dog. These specially trained dogs visit a variety of places, including: senior care facilities, schools, daycares, the Boys & Girls Club and numerous libraries.

This positive experience encourages children to become more social and interactive while gaining confidence in their reading abilities. This program is offered in partnership with Therapy Tails Niagara.

R.E.A.D.

Read Everyday And Discover! What can you do to help your child  boost their reading skills and have fun during summer vacation? The R.E.A.D. program provides one-on-one tutoring for struggling readers in grades 2-6. Registration Forms are available starting Friday, June 7 at the Library. Our Summer Literacy Student will work one-on-one with your child for a week. The program combines paired reading with a variety of literacy games and activities. Plus, children enrolled in R.E.A.D. are encouraged to use the books they've read to participate in Go!, our TD Bank Summer Reading Club.

Whooo's Reading? Preschool Summer Reading Club

Tim Hortons is helping your fledgling reader take flight by feathering the nest of the GPL's preschool summer literacy program for kids 2-6 years old.  Starting July 2, nonreaders and emerging readers may pick up a 10-page booklet Whoo's Reading activity booklet.  Each page focuses on a different concept for children to explore at home with an adult.

TD Summer Reading Club

Take a trip to the Library, tell us about your book, get free stuff, and enter weekly raffles for prizes.  Want more interactive fun?  Check out the TD Summer Reading Club website at tdsummerreadingclub.ca

Together with the Art Gallery, we're also offering a free drop-in art activity called GO! Anywhere. Find it Thursday nights from 6:00-7:30PM in the Children's Garden.  If it's rainy, you'll find it in the Studio.

Go Anywhere!
Thursdays/ 6:00-7:30PM

This free drop-in program runs from 6:00 – 7:30pm  on Thursday evenings, beginning June 27 and continuing until August 29. In keeping with the TD Summer Reading Club theme, children will enjoy stories and an art project based on travel of many kinds, from global to imaginary. Go Anywhere! will be held in the Library’s Children’s Garden. If it’s rainy, look for it in the Studio. This program is presented in cooperation with the Grimsby Public Gallery and has been generously supported by the Niagara Neighbourhood NEW Idea Fund.

Arts & Letters Day Camp
August 6-9 / 9:00AM - 3:30PM

Kids 5-8 will enjoy this full day program offered in cooperation with the Grimsby Public Art Gallery.  Delve into books and storytelling through mixed media creations, literacy games and more. The fee for the full week is $160.00 with before and after care available for a small additional fee. Register at the Art Gallery, beginning June 3.

Phelps Homes Building Literacy Fair

It's a Summer Fair at the Library!  We're celebrating sunny days and super stories to enjoy during our upcoming Summer Reading Clubs. Don't miss face painting, balloon animals, sidewalk chalk, an art project, read-alouds, frosty treats, and a visit from Clifford the Big Red Dog! Kids will love the activities, while parents can explore summer programs offered by the Library and Gallery.

Erick Traplin
Wednesday, July 31 / 2:00PM

Erick Traplin's entertained at schools, libraries, and fairs throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada for over 20 years with his fun-filled, interactive, high-energy musical show. Bringing a mixture of original and traditional songs, he captivates audiences everywhere.  The Library thanks Grant Gingrich, BMO Nesbitt Burns for generously providing this free family concert and championing Summer Reading Clubs. Literacy rocks at the Grimsby Public library.

Applefun Puppetry presenting: Jungle Trek
Wednesday, August 28 / 2:00PM

In Jungle Trek, AppleFun will boldly go where few puppets have gone before.  The jungle is a peaceful place.... until some nutty space explorers arrive.  This is 45 minutes of interactive fun and afterwards, everyone learns how to make a paper puppet to take home.  Come celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club at this free show for children 3-9 years old.  Many thanks to our Local Tim Hortons for sponsoring this special event in support of children's literacy at the Grimsby Public Library.

Grimsby Youth Film Festival
July 2-August 31

Here's your chance to make a unique cinematic statement.  From July 2 to August 31, kids 8-18 can submit a short film (maximum 5 minutes) to the GPL for our second annual GYFF.  We'll be posting entries on YouTube and screening them on Saturday, September 14 as part of Grimsby's Art Walk.
