Science Literacy Week was founded by Jesse Hildebrand, a science enthusiast with a background in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Jesse's goal is to showcase the excellence and diversity of Canadian scientists and science communicators from coast to coast.

Mad Science Spin Pop Boom Widget

Pick up your FREE ticket starting September 1.
Kids can explore a thrilling combination of chemistry and physics with the Spin! Pop! Boom! show. You will be wowed by a cool, centrifugal force platform and bungee jumping pet. An awesome CO2 launcher, incredible booming balloons, and flaming Didgeridoo will amaze. Watch Mad Science create a rainbow before your eyes with their magical rainbow maker!
Royal Ontario Museum Raffle:
To add to the excitement, the Library will raffle off one free admission to the ROM at the end of the Mad Science presentation. Be there to win!

Science Project Display Widget

Science is everywhere! In celebration of Science Literacy Week in Canada, we're showcasing science projects in the Lobby of the Grimsby Public Library.
There is still time to submit your project! Just call us to sign up. Any kids with fun, cool and/or interesting science projects they would like to display  are welcome! To show your project at the display, contact the Library at 905.945.5142!
Scratchjr Widget
2 - 3 PM | Free | Ages 5 - 8 | Story Time Room
Register now! (8 spots only, don't delay!)
Kids can discover ScratchJr, a playful coding program especially for them. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.
Children can share the fun with a parent/guardian or attend alone. There is only room for 8 children in this program, so don't delay!
ScratchJr is a collaboration between the DevTech Research Group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company. See

Your littlest ones can celebrate Science Literacy Week with stories & non-fiction books about the wonders of science!
Are your older kids registered for the ScratchJr program? Conveniently, this story time runs at the same time, so younger siblings can join in some science fun as well!
Tour of the Universe widget

In this richly illustrated tour of the universe, astronomy expert John Gauvreau takes us from the safety of our home planet out through the solar system, visiting the cur-rent rovers on Mars and the rings of Saturn, before head-ing out into deep space. The latest images from space probes show us giant clouds of gas where new stars are being formed. We leave the Milky Way galaxy to travel to the farthest reaches of the universe and come face to face with the incredible vastness of our cosmos before finally returning to Earth from a rather unique perspective.

It’s Electrifying! - Thursday, September 21

7 PM | Register now | 20 spots available | Grades 4 – 7 | Fireplace Lounge 

We use electricity every day in all kinds of ways. With It’s Electrifying, kids can gain a basic understanding of electricity by experimenting with circuits, conductors, insulator and electromagnets. (45 – 100 minutes) 


Friction Lab - Saturday, September 23

10:30 am | Register now | 20 spots | Grades 4 – 7 | Studio

Friction keeps us from slipping and falling everywhere.Registrants will creatively explore the properties of friction and build a friction-testing device during this hands-on, interactive, brainstorming lab.  (45 - 60 minutes)
