Parking By-Law Enforcement

Our parking By-Law Enforcement provides enforcement of non-moving traffic offences in the Town of Grimsby.

There is a 16 hour time limit for parking on any street in Grimsby for the following reasons:

  1. To assist with snow removal, salting and sanding
  2. To allow for street cleaning and maintenance
  3. To facilitate garbage and mail pickup
  4. To control derelict and abandoned vehicles
  5. To improve traffic flow

As required parking tickets are issued for various parking By-Laws and include:

  1. Park in disabled zone without a permit $300.00
  2. Park in fire route $50.00
  3. Park within 3 meters of fire hydrant $20.00
  4. Stop on Sidewalk $40.00
  5. Stop in Prohibited Area $40.00
  6. Park in Prohibited Area $20.00
  7. Park for longer than 16 hours $20.00
  8. Park facing wrong way $20.00
  9. Park within 10m of an intersection $20.00

If you receive a Parking Infraction Notice

Within 15 Days of the date of the alleged parking infraction, you must choose one of the following options below.

If you do not pay the set fine or request a trial, a conviction may be entered against you without furthur notice. On conviction you will be required to pay the set fine plus court costs. An administration fee is payable if the fine goes into default.

DEFENDANTS OPTIONS CHOOSE ONE ONLY

OPTION 1. VOLUNTARY PAYMENT BY MAIL:

Write the parking infraction notice number on your cheque or money order and make payable to The Town of Grimsby. Enclose in the accompanying envelope, affix sufficient postage and allow time for delivery. Dishonoured cheques will be subject to an administartion charge. Do not send cash in mail.

After hours please use the mail drop box located at the front of the Municipal Office.

At this time you or your agent may wish to discuss the offence with a designated Town official during office hours. You may wish to call the Municipality to make an appointment.


OPTION 2. TRIAL OPTION

You or you agent must attend the municipality in person at the times, days and address shown above to file a "Notice of Intention to Appear" in court. You or your agent must bring this notice with you. YOU CANNOT SET A TRIAL BY MAIL.

You or your agent may wish to discuss the offence with a designated Town Official during office hours. You may wish to call the Municipality above to make an appointment.

NOTICE ONTARIO RESIDENTS
Failure to pay the fine imposed upon conviction will result in an order that your Ontario Vehicle Permit not be renewed and that no permit be issued to you until the fine and all court costs and fees have been paid.
