Summer Reading Programs

Every summer, we offer Summer Reading programs for everyone. Why? Summer is the perfect time for reading. Whether you are lying on a beach or enjoying a shady afternoon in your backyard. Whether you're reading a picture books or a novel...  Whether you read on your own or with some help. Celebrate summer and celebrate reading by participating in our Summer Reading Clubs.

From July 2 to August 23, we've got great Summer Reading Programs for kids ages 2 to 12.  School ages children who are reading on their own will enjoy the Eureka!  TD Summer Reading Club while non-readers and emerging readers won't feel left out with our Wild About Reading Preschool Summer Reading Club.  It takes just a few minutes per visit for kids to tell Reading Desk staff about their most recent reads. Participants can share a maximum of two titles per visit, receive a small prize for each title and enter a ticket in our weekly raffle.  Kids can have fun using our online databases and discover more online fun at

Parents will be happy to learn that Summer Reading Club participation helps prevent summer literacy loss.  Kids are happy that there's a fun, drop in activity where they'll see friends and share great books.

Reading Club Hours:
Monday - Saturday / 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Tuesday & Thursday evenings / 6:00 - 7:30 PM

Eureka is intended for children reading on their own.  Most children will have finished grade one.
 - Children are encouraged to read books at their own level
 - Readers may report on up to 5 non-fiction books and a maximum of 2 graphic novels
 - Participants may report on up to three bonus books.  A bonus book is a juvenile or YP fictional book with more than 150 pages of text.  Each bonus book counts as two regular titles.

There's also lots to do online.  Visit the Eureka! site to Make a Story, Tell a Joke,  Learn to Draw and so much more.

Grimsby’s Tim Hortons is just wild about reading and wild about kids enjoying books, too. They’ve very kindly sponsored the Wild About Reading program for non-readers and emerging readers aged 2—6.   Visit our Preschool page for more wild details.

READ program logo  Read Everyday And Discover! What can you do to help your child  boost their reading skills and have fun during summer vacation? The R.E.A.D. program provides one-on-one tutoring forstruggling readers in grades 2-6. Registration begins on Monday, June 9, 2014.  We've also reached out to teachers who may recommend this program to support your struggling reader during the summer months.

The program combines paired reading with a variety of literacy games and activities. Our Summer Literacy Student will work one-on-one with your child for a week. Plus, children enrolled in R.E.A.D. are encouraged to use the books they've read to participate in Eureka!, our TD Bank Summer Reading Club.
